Maria joined the firm as a partner in September 2009, adding further strength and depth to the commercial property team.
She graduated from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne with a Fine Art degree and finished her legal studies at the College of Law in Chancery Lane, London in 1991.
Maria qualified as a solicitor at Field Fisher Waterhouse in 1993 and was an associate at Baker & McKenzie. She ran her own legal practice, Guidance Legal, before joining Edwin Coe as a partner, and then another City firm, where she was head of the Property Team.
Maria handles a diverse range of commercial property work, with a particular interest in licensed property. She deals with matters ranging from the sale and acquisition of hotels, pubs and clubs to secured lending on property in the healthcare sector. She acts for banks, landlords, tenants, investors and developers. She is also experienced in the complex area of leasehold enfranchisement.
In addition, Maria specialises in Licensing, handling the whole range of applications under the Licensing Act 2003. She takes a pro-active and no nonsense approach to all transactions, which is highly valued by her clients.
